2017 Salon Design Resolutions

Tired of the same old look at your salon? The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to revamp your space! Setting attainable goals is crucial for keeping your new year’s resolutions. Here are 5 easy ways to spice up your salon and get the look that sets YOU apart:

1. Establish a Theme: Kickstart your salon redesign this year by establishing a theme for your space. The design concept should reflect your salon's brand, location, and target audience. For example, if your salon is vacation themed or includes a day spa, consider using warm tones and neutral colors to create a calming atmosphere.

2. Pick a Fresh Style: Choose a style that is synonymous with the theme and demographics of your salon. You could shape your style around the existing architecture in a space, the culture surrounding your business, or based on a specific design or decor that resonates with you and your salon brand. For instance, if your space has exposed brick walls and you target the men’s grooming market, incorporate the robust look of the brick throughout the space to add to the authentic atmosphere.

3. Splash of Paint: A fresh coat of paint can transform the look of any space! Consider the psychology of colors when choosing the tones for your salon. Splashing some neutral tones and cool blues on the walls could work for a salon trying to create a relaxing environment, while a deep shade of purple creates an elegant and chic atmosphere. A stark, white color is perfect for a more modern, new-wave space. If you're trying to target a younger generation and achieve a hip-culture environment, pick a vibrant paint color for an accent wall to conjure an eye-catching focal point.

According to Benjamin Moore, the hot new color for 2017 will be a shade of lilac/grey, branded with the name shadow. Consider following similar color trends this year when planning your redesign.

4. Decor Updates: Your salon remodel doesn't have to involve a huge renovation. Look for easy decor updates such as adding light fixtures or art pieces to refresh your space! Decals can be great wall decorations without any of the commitment. When you get sick of the design, just peel off the decal and replace it with another!

5. Go Bold: There a plenty of ways you can bring a bold statement to your salon. If you have a space with high ceilings, create some drama with floor to ceiling drapes in rich fabrics like velvet or silk. On the flip side, if you are working with a smaller space, consider adding large mirrors to create an illusion of depth. Placing a metal chandelier in the center of an industrial-styled space can create depth and provide a cutting-edge vibe.

Don’t ignore your reception area! This is the first area a customer sees when they enter the space. It should set the tone for the whole salon. Add a funky chair in a bright fabric or a unique side table to create an interesting conversation piece.
