Q & A
What is the experience like at your salon, spa, or barbershop?
The Head Spa(ce) is a salon and spa that caters to both man and woman who likes to be pampered from head to toe. I specialize in cleansing, and moisturizing clients’ scalp and facial with the integration of my massage therapy, skin care expertise and hair artistry. I am licensed in 3 discipline as a massage therapist, esthetician and cosmetologist thereby filling the gap in the beauty industry for those seeking a one-stop salon and spa. My clients always return for more treatments on scalp, skin and hair because according to them, they emerged rejuvenated, refreshed and beautiful after their visits to The Head Spa(ce). They love how therapeutic the head to shoulder massage done in every head spa, hair treatments and facial they’ve been scheduled to. In addition, they love the comfort of my Legacy chair gives because I can make them recline flat and they sleep and dream during the treatments making them rest. Rest makes one more beautiful and that’s what The Head Spa(ce) gives them.

What Takara Belmont products do you own? When and why was it acquired?
Before I started my journey to be a salon and spa owner, I attended a lot of conventions and shows from San Jose, Long Beach, Ca. And Las Vegas every year. I was a
practicing body and skin care practitioner, since 2006. I was renting a room in a salon environment using a traditional wooden massage bed for my practice. One day, 2 of my regular clients requested if I can shampoo their hair after their scalp massages, as they were meeting some friends after, but I said I wasn’t licensed to do hair. To their dismay, I have to help them look for a hairstylist. To make that story short, that prompted me to enroll and be licensed in cosmetology to cater to the whole salon and spa total rejuvenating experience. After a year of experience in hair, I planned to open my own salon and spa to my loyal clients who were still asking if I can do a total image makeover and total experience of beauty and relaxation in one visit. That gave me an idea of putting up a future business with this concept. Although, my financial capability was so scarce to rent a bigger space to accommodate massage table, shampoo bowl set and a salon chair. I am a university graduate of Business Administration I am a spa-goer myself and loves to go to an upscale but budget-sustainable spa and salon. I grew up doing business as early as 15 years old, selling internationally-imported chocolates and ready-to-wear clothes to my classmates for my allowance to help my parents subsidized their expenses for us 3 children. During my childhood as a business person, I have lots of loyal customers as they said they trusted me with what I sell and I have a good taste in fashion. I was an artist also, my Art instructors in the university offered me to buy my drawings all the time which I actually sold some. As an individual, I gear towards high quality and superior products and services I used at home because I believe that high quality products and well-thought designed items are
product of passion, more often than not. I worked in a huge international high technology company trained in their benchmark to give high quality and best service commitment to customers. In addition to give the highest professionalism we can give. That opened my eyes what really makes a best product. That’s why that commitment will follow me on all aspect
of myself even in the business aspect. I usually research and compare products before I buy. I was on the look out for a quality equipment that can offer something that does it all. A compact one! One convention in San Jose, Ca. , a Takara Belmont booth was set up, leading the pack of Salon and Spa equipment section. I gravitated to their spot where the representative asked me to try the Yume. Wow! It’s like my dream chair came into life! My dream chair where I can do everything I can offer-massage, facial, shampoo and blow out therapy in one! One chair does it all! I know from that moment on, I found the most impeccable equipment I needed for
my business! That’s what I need to make one person beautiful, one person at a time in a small space setting! That’s not all, the chair was so designed elegantly! It’s a classic in it’s modern stature! The chair alone can make my studio stand out with it’s
minimalist-look. The customer support in Irvine is wonderful, too, just the things I was hoping for. I really got to have it! It took me another year to save and find somebody who can sponsor me to buy my dream chair. Fortunately, my husband finally made my dream came true and bought me the Legacy chair in replacement for Intended Yume Spa set, on July of 2018 as my birthday gift. I cannot ask for more as it was equally beautiful as Yume, as I can use it with the shampoo bowl provided in my rented space. I used it as planned for my practice, doing head facials, skin care and hair dressing for my beautiful clientele! I have no regrets as clients started to trickle into my studio because of my skills and my cozy studio set-up so they say. Thus, the head spa was becoming the talk of the town and the chair, too! I love my Legacy chair as it made me catapult my dream business to reality! It’s not only a barber chair but the best chair for head spa and skin care! On June 2021, I have decided to expand to a 2- chair head spa. This time I want to make another dream come true and that is to buy a Yume to be set up in the other studio I rented. To my surprise, I wasn’t able to buy it because I learned that my son had bought it for me as my birthday gift! Wow! I am more certain that Somebody up there loves me tremendously that He gave me the best family! And true to it’s name, Yume means a “dream”. A dream came true for me! I still dream to expand to have additional chairs in the future and maybe a Takara Belmont-inspired Salon and Spa! It started from a Legacy chair and may The Head Spa(ce) becomes a legacy my children can continue on in the future!
What is your favorite part of each product, and why?
My favorite part for the Legacy chair is it can recline to almost flat that I can offer so much more services to a one client! For my Yume Spa, the best part is that I am able to sit behind the shampoo bowl and save my legs and back from the pain of standing. I love the faucet where I can switch to two settings. For the Spa Mist, I love that I can use it on all my scalp and hair treatment and the aromatherapy can purify the air we breath inside the studio with the specific essential oils. According to my client, they love the comfortability of the chair from being reclined flat and seating position as there is no need for them to change chair after the head spa treatment to their haircut and blow out therapy. Currently most of my clients book 2-4 services in one visit . It has elevated my business to a better salon experience. With this COVID-19 pandemic, I feel more efficient having not to disinfect in between client’s services as I can service less client with more services. I am waiting to get another Legacy chair to match the Majolica Series cabinet and sink so I can expand my business to offer barbering to my female and male clients. Females are embracing the barber ‘s cut recently. And that’s what I would like to offer to my menu as an additional service. My skills + Takara Belmont’s equipment = more income.
Why should you win the #TakaraTurns100 Grand Prize?
I should win #TakaraTurns100 Grand Prize because I believe Takara Belmont has been destined to be part of my business. I became passionate to design my studios with all Takara Belmont’s high quality and impeccably designed products. From my long search of equipment, designed for my specific needs, I actually found it as if I was handpicked to be a part of Takara Belmont’s legacy in the salon and Spa industry by means of probably being a Takara Belmont-inspired salon and spa soon! Maybe it would take awhile to add more equipment into my studios but with positive thoughts, destiny will make that happen. The realization of the dream is never too far to reach. From my humble beginnings being trained as a child to become a future business woman. Ti being honed in a bug company that trained me to pick the best products there is and trained me to give the highest level of professionalism to reinventing myself to become a beauty and wellness practitioner. I know in my heart that I will be successful in this industry despite if the difficulties of COVID-19 crisis, I have a family who sacrificed to make my dreams come true despite the difficulties in our lives. I never gave up because I know a lot of people need my unique services. I am the only one who offers head spa and scalp care in the bay area right now. I hope that I can help as much clients , as hair artists and therapists, alike in the future in this business. This belief is the reason why I think I need to win this Grand Prize.
